In a celebration of local fashion boutiques and their stylish designers, the Stonnington Spring Fashion Runway Show 2012 kicked off in the Malvern Town Hall featuring the immaculate showing from Stonnington fashion boutiques, including designers such as Lisa Barron, T. L. Wood and Trelise Cooper.
The diverse collection of fashion extended from the beautiful gowns of Connie Simonetti, to a sweet peplum dress from the label Stevie. Trends as seen on the international stage were paraded up and down the runways; Leona Edmiston’s display of bright floral gowns was timeless and elegant, whilst designer Mathieu Salem exhibited a collection of natural pieces, the stand out being the picturesque dye-dyed gown, capable of transforming any woman into a walking work of art.
But gentlemen, do not despair. The classy presentation of this season male treads geared from designers Jack London, who artfully incorporated animal prints into each of his outfits, and the more classical collaborations of Dom Bagnato, present a broad selection to help inspire you this season. Bold colours were the theme among the male collections, with bright jumpers over coloured shirts constituting Hemden’s wardrobe, whilst Ted Baker’s London collection offered a more subtle variation of the trend as represented in formal wear.
Gracing the stage in the highlight of the evening were designs by Naomi Tettmann and Elke Doust, who are the 2012 Stonnington Emerging Designers. Creators and designers of the label Tettmann.Doust, this seasons designs edge away from their usual nature inspired looks, taking a more ‘scientific’ direction. Their collection features hand-cut kangaroo leather and specifically designed digital prints on silk fabrics. The young designers were commended on their attention to detail, and in viewing the striking collection of pieces, which include leather pants and a beautiful silk playsuit, it is hard to disagree.
Congratulations is also extended to 2012 Fashion Hall of Fame Inductee Karen Webster, a founding board member of the Melbourne Fashion Festival and active member of the fashion industry. Karen now joins the Hall of Fame with other designers such as Allanah Hill, Joseph Saba and Lillian Frank.
