ORRONG HOTEL REOPENS

Standing proud on the corner of Orrong Road and High Street is Armadale’s iconic Orrong Hotel; which after three years of closure has officially reopened its doors with new owners and given a breath of fresh life. With a status amongst the local community that precedes its 150-year tenure, the beloved pub is now run by publicans Matt Vero and Scott Connolly, who both individually have strong ties with pubs; with Matt also a co-owner of Marquis of Lorne, Union House and Mt Erica Hotel; and Scott owner of the Moore St Tavern, Moe and comes from a long line of publicans (his great-grandmother was the second woman in Victoria to get a liquor license).

Leading the kitchen is Head Chef Phillip Latta, previously of Pure South and Wolfe & Malone, who has designed a menu reflective of great pub food that has been well executed, with all the classics making an appearance. Everything from the famed chicken schnitzel, an Orrong angus beef burger, philly cheese steak sandwich and “Fable” mushroom burger, each, along with every dish on the menu, given an Orrong Hotel twist.

Taking cues from the great, traditional pubs in Australia, Orrong Hotel is deep and moody, and offers a variety of spaces for whatever the mood. There’s the Public Bar with its commanding original bar with TV screens throughout, patrons can catch a game at the Sports Bar, both make for the perfect place to settle in, any time of day and season of the year, and let life pass by, with hours seeming like seconds.

Like any good pub, Orrong Hotel have a line-up of weeknight specials, from a $19 Burger & Pot on a Tuesday; $20 Pot and Parma on a Wednesday; Thursday night is steak night where for $24 you can enjoy a rump with chips and your choice of sauce; and if a wing is more your thing, you can start the weekend with 1⁄2 a kilo of hot wings for $15 on a Friday. There is also the return of the classic Sunday roast, changing each week and coming with all the trimmings for just $25.

Orrong Hotel is open from 11.30am, 7 days a week.
Address: 709 High St, Armadale
