Get ready to raise some (cookie) dough — Worthy Cause’s much-loved bake-a-thon fundraiser is back on 14–15 June at Co.Bake Space in Richmond, Victoria. Running from 9am to 9pm each day, the event invites cookie lovers and community supporters alike to stop by for a treat (or three), all in the name of a great cause. The charity, which provides employment training for Australians facing complex barriers to work, is aiming to raise $50,000 through cookie sales and donations — eclipsing its 2024 total of $34,500.

One hundred per cent of proceeds from the bake-a-thon will go towards delivering 1,670 hours of paid training and wrap-around support to people impacted by challenges such as severe mental illness, a history of incarceration, or family and domestic violence. Worthy Cause runs two social enterprise cafes in Heidelberg and Preston, where participants develop practical skills in a supportive environment — from financial literacy to interpersonal communication.

Worthy Cause was founded by Rick Cohen, whose passion for creating opportunity is deeply personal. Rick’s own journey has included surviving family violence, sexual assault, PTSD, and years in full-time psychiatric care. “I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t have a lot of options in life,” he says. “So I wanted to start a charity that helps marginalised people feel more prepared, confident and equipped — not just to survive, but to thrive.”

You can get involved by visiting Co.Bake Space during the event, shopping online, or making a direct donation via worthycause.org.au. Along with mouth-watering cookies, the weekend will feature giveaways and prizes for participants who hit fundraising milestones. More than just a bake sale, the event is a celebration of community spirit and the belief that together, we can change lives — one cookie at a time.
