Tuesday saw the model casting for David Jones’ opening runway for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Set in a beautiful, well-lit indoor courtyard sat 200 models on pristine white leather chairs awaiting the opportunity to showcase themselves to a panel of fashion industry leaders.

The early morning casting kicked off with a slow start, as models gracefully checked in one-by-one, folios in hand as media crews set up cameras and equipment ready to snap all of the action from the get-go.

The judging panel was made up of model Samantha Harris, Graeme Lewsey; CEO of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and super stylist Kelvin Harries who were all very keen to inspect the talent that was on offer.

DJ Smash’s remix of Kiss by Bob Beldon Project featuring Jimi Tunnell starts playing over the speaker system, and the casting began. One by one, models took turns strutting their stuff from one side of the room to the other hoping for the chance to walk the runway along David Jones’ Fashion Ambassador, Miranda Kerr and international success Montana Cox.

Samantha Harris, on the day, adorned in a vibrant floral pantsuit by Thurley said, “I look for girls that are very confident, happy, healthy, bubbly and just at the end of the day are happy in their own skin.”

Upon the sea of Melbourne’s top models were some very familiar faces such as Nick Bracks, Samantha Downie, Adam Rabone, Sahara Deng, Iskra Galic, Grace Quealy, Ruby Brown, Alyse Cocliff and many more who have already graced the runways of Spring Fashion Week many times.

Without a doubt, these three judges will have a very big challenge on their hands to decide who gets the honour of helping kick start the week of fashion festivities and walk the catwalk draped in the spring/ summer creations of Australia’s leading brands.
