You would have to be crazy not to lust over at least one Camilla and Marc piece each season.  This Autumn/Winter 2013, the label’s collection, “The Fundamentals”, is yet another exquisitely, dreamy story. Paying attention to detail, cut, fit and structure, the brand invokes a new level of simplicity.

Often very feminine, Camilla and Marc take on a new direction- asymmetrical cuts and the absence of excess makes for more masculine and refined pieces. But, for those still craving some Camilla and Marc “prettiness”, don’t fret. Autumn/Winter is inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi (think greys florals and origami colours) and decorative techniques in the form of statement metallic chain prints. This creates a collection that is exotically delicate on one hand but subtly strong and haunting on the other.

The Autumn/Winter story begins with statement gold chain prints, chic, seductive grey florals and rich primary painted stripes of cobalt blue, acid yellow, luscious magenta, grass green and candy coated orange. These colours oppose the soft pastels of this past season, showing how fashion is moving towards more sophisticated, opulent dressing. The colours and prints juxtapose the simple silhouettes of the suits and cap sleeved shift dresses, creating an interesting, but bold imbalance.

The collection moves from pure simplicity to edgier, utilitarian simplicity. The boyish, military style pieces stand out in a colour pallet of khaki, black and cement grey. The series reveals a marriage between being fashion forward and daring but still highly sleek and easy to wear. Think crisp white collared shirts paired with army green and black skinny pants, cotton drop crotch trousers, lapel-less suits and round neck, bloc coloured body tight dresses.

In typical Camilla and Marc fashion, it’s also all in the detail. To reflect the intensity and confidence of a military uniform, the pieces are adorned with gold buttons and heavy tone-on-tone beading. Classic army overcoats and khaki green pants are also contrasted with newer shapes shown in recent high fashion shows. Designed in cool cameo prints are the round-shouldered bomber jacket, skater skirts and the peplum pants.

Adding pops of colour to your wardrobe is the heavy florescent pink and black embroidery featured on the collection’s statement bomber jacket and party dresses. The feminine embroidery creates an exciting and intricate surfaced effect perfect for the night to day transition. Adding fun drama to your look are colours of neon green, purple and cerulean blue.

Finally, a Camilla and Marc season wouldn’t be complete without out some darling, timeless pieces. The brand’s perennial favourites include textured raw leather, soft stretch leather, black lace and sharp, white blazers, suits, trousers and mini-skirts. Although classic, these pieces will make a true impact for winter 2013. Striking, stylish and polished- all the makings of a true style icon.

A slightly more subtle approach for Camilla and Marc, The Fundamentals is still completely enchanting. It merges an easy luxury with a restrained approach. Wearing Camilla and Marc this season, you will no doubt mesmerize onlookers, putting a new confidence in your fashionable stride.

Heart Camilla and Marc – we certainly do.
