“I was looking to do something on the side of modelling for a while now, and health and wellbeing was something I’ve always been interested in” say Steph Smith, one half of the Keep It Clean ebook series. Smith, one of the “fitspo It girls” taking the social media world by storm, is one of Australia’s top models utilising her 830k+ Instagram following to share her love of fitness and healthy eating. Joining her as the other half of Keep it Clean, is fellow model and Smith’s bestie Laura Henshaw. With just under 50k+ Instagram followers, Henshaw is also founder of protein supplement Four Protein as well as being a law student by day.

“Cooking was something I’ve always loved doing, and having a bestie like Laura who has her own food blog made it something fun we could do together” says Smith about what inspired the collaboration. “The book is a reflection of what we both eat” said Henshaw. “It was important for us to create something which people could make themselves at home. We didn’t want it to be too intimidating, we just wanted to use it as a way to share some of our favourite recipes.” Smith says “While we don’t have formal training in fitness or nutrition, we still wanted to make something that was really positive and focused on how easy it is to make healthy food without spending too much money.”

As well as promoting a love of clean eating, the pair also regularly share their workouts across their social media platforms.”While Laura loves to run, I love to walk, to clear my mind” says Smith of her favourite way to work out. “I also try to fit in pilates three times a week. It’s really helped with my posture, and the last 6 months I’ve been doing high intensity training with Laura.”

What advice do the pair have for those looking to follow in their footsteps? Smith and Henshaw are very positive of their experience so far in the modelling industry. “Our agency have been very supportive of us”, says Smith “and have given us some amazing opportunities.” Smith emphasises the need for self confidence if you want to tackle the fickle world of modelling. “I have a lot of girls message me who want to be a model but they are lacking in self-esteem”, says Smith. “It’s a tough industry and you need to be confident in yourself if you want to try and make a career out of it. Henshaw said she wasn’t always as confident as she is now, but encourages everyone to follow their dreams, no matter what they are. “I was originally scared to start my blog, but once I got past of the fear of what were people going to think and I knew I had a lot of great people around me who were going to support me, I started it and I’ve never looked back. I think that’s the most important thing, don’t care what people think, because if that’s what you want to, you have every right. Just go for it.”
