The annual Style for Life day is on again this month on Sunday 27 July, 2014. The day is a joint effort between ELEVEN Australia and not-for-profit organisation, Hagar, to help create awareness and raise funds for work to help women and children around the world who have survived severe human rights abuse.

Now in its second year, the national event will see ELEVEN Australia salons around the country open their doors on a Sunday to snip and style as many customers as they can sit in their chairs, with all proceeds from the day donated to Hagar.

Hagar is an international charity that works to restore the lives of women and children who have survived severe human rights abuse including rape, paedophilia and modern slavery. With housing and education centres in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Vietnam, Hagar provides specialist trauma counselling, intensive education programs and career training opportunities for people who would otherwise have had no chance of a future.

By booking your next hair appointment at a participating salon on Sunday 27 July, you will be making a difference to the lives of people in need by supporting the funding, training and economic empowerment of vulnerable women and young people affected by human rights abuse.

Last year, funds raised on “Style for Life Day” last year supported over 40 survivors through the esteemed Hagar-lead Career Pathways program in Cambodia, which includes intensive work readiness training, ‘on the job’ vocational training in the hairdressing industry, employment placement and two years of follow up case management.

ELEVEN Australia Co-Creative Director Joey Scandizzo and the ELEVEN Australia team recently visited Hagar’s Open Arms Salon in Cambodia, where they hosted a hair ‘master class’. The training session taught a group of women the fundamentals of hairdressing (including how to hold scissors, how to section hair and cut on the right angle) and allowed them to experience styling and cutting hair on mannequin heads.

Hagar patron Rachel Griffiths will also be doing her bit to support “Style for Life Day” by encouraging Australians to book their next hair appointment on Sunday 27 July to help make a difference.

Last year, 12 participating salons raised a combined $21,000 for Hagar – a figure ELEVEN Australia and Hagar hope to double in 2014 by encouraging more salons and customers to be part of the day.
