Support local business with these gorgeous products that will have you looking your best.

It’s been a tough and stressful year for all of us. It might be that your skin is suffering from anxiety breakouts, you’re not sleeping well or you just want to give yourself a little treat. Next time you’re at the beauty counter, why not seek out a product that not only suits your needs but also gives the local industry a boost?

The first Australian Made Week begins today, and ambassador Elyse Knowles, Aussie entrepreneur, model and mum, is urging everyone to switch to products in all categories that are created locally. In fact, if every household spent an additional $10 a week on Australian Made products it would inject $5 billion into the country each year and create 11,000 new jobs. So the next time you’re looking to stock up on skincare or makeup, look for products made right here. These are five of our favourite Australian Made beauty products…

The Skincare Company Daily Cleanser

Do you suffer from a little sensitivity? Do you need to regulate oil production? Perhaps you just want a good product that suits your skin’s many moods. The Skincare Company Daily Cleanser contains both lactic and salicylic acid (AHA and BHA), as well as antioxidants, vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and vitamin E (tocopherol). Use it morning and evening, and The Skincare Company Daily Cleanser (120ml, $55) helps to boost skin immunity, prevent pigmentation and control sebum production. Plus, it’s free from fragrance and preservatives, so is suitable for sensitive skin types. The Skincare Company’s line, launched in 2009, is scientifically formulated for the best results and is often used to complement in-clinic dermal treatments. The cosmeceutical company works with more than 24 local service providers near its hometown of Geelong and another 15 nationally to create locally made products that support as many Australian workers as possible.

Esmi Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum

If you’re looking for the ultimate skin hydrator, you’ve found it. esmi Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum is a quick-absorbing product that helps fight dehydration while plumping the skin, minimising lines, and boosting radiance. Suitable for all skin types (because even oily skin can become dehydrated), it restores, repairs and reveals healthy skin. It’s just one of the products in the esmi range, launched by Jamie Favios when she couldn’t find products that worked with her changing skin. Primarily concerned with preventative ageing, she began developing her Skin Treats that targeted specific skin concerns, from dehydration to pigmentation.

Like all the company’s products, esmi Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum (30ml, $65) is cruelty free and vegan.

Miss Frankie nail polish in Current Mood

If you watched the series The Undoing, you might have become obsessed with the extraordinary range of beautiful coats Nicole Kidman wore during the six episodes and her short, dark nails. If you’re ready to emulate her look, Miss Frankie Current Mood (11ml, $22) is the perfect way to do it. It’s a rich cherry-black shade – perfect for winter months – in a formulation that’s kind to your nails. Kara Jeffers launched Miss Frankie after closing the nail salon she’d owned for 11 years. She saw a gap in the market for quality polishes that didn’t contain any nasties. Her polishes contain no toxic materials, are vegan and cruelty free, and are formulated to allow nails to breathe. They’re also fast drying, long lasting and chip resistant.

Saint Jack Makeup Cleaning Mist

As a freelance makeup artist, Beth Wilson effectively became unemployed when Covid-19 locked down Melbourne. It also raised concerns she had about the cleanliness and hygiene of applying makeup. Designed primarily for makeup artists, it can be sprayed directly on to palettes, powders and creams to completely sanitise them. If you’re prone to breakouts or like to share your kit with friends, it’s a great precaution and doubles as a cleaner for makeup brushes. Plus, Saint Jack Makeup Cleaning Mist (200ml, $36) will leave your makeup smelling divine.
