Run Melbourne presented by lululemon is just over a month away on Sunday 29 July , taking runners throughout the streets of Melbourne. The event includes the Runners World Half-Marathon, the Bulk Nutrients 10km run and a 5km run, something for everyone!  This year, Chris Cannon from Life Hub is one of this year’s Run Melbourne ambassadors and we caught up with Chris to get he’s doing to prepare for this year’s event.

Congratulations on being a Run Melbourne presented by lululemon ambassador! What are you most excited about in this role?

I love Melbourne and a challenge! I’d actually never run over 5 kilometres prior to preparing for this event. Run Melbourne presents an opportunity to push my comfort zone as I take on the 21.1km while running through my favourite city, all while enjoying the uplifting good vibes of this amazing event.

Who is your chosen charity and why did you choose them?

I’ll be supporting BeyondBlue. These rockstars provided so much support to my wife’s family and myself when my wife’s sister unfortunately took her own life. Depression and anxiety are rife in society today and many feel uncomfortable to talk about it. By building awareness, we can make people realise that they have help available to them and, in turn, save lives.

Which Run Melbourne event are you participating in?

I’ll be hitting the 21.1km (half marathon). Considering I’d never run further than 5km prior to getting the call up to be an ambassador for Run Melbourne, it should be a good challenge.

What are you doing to train for the event?

I’m doing a combination of weight lifting, kickboxing and conditioning at Life Hub which allows me to stay strong, while increasing my running ability with The Run Tribe hosted by lululemon – utilising distance running, endurance and speed work at The Tan on Wednesday morning. To top it off, I hit a long run on Sunday mornings adding 1km each week to my overall distance which should have me ready to rock come the big day!

For those that are on the fence with signing up for the run, what encouragement can you give them to sign up?

‘A goal is a dream with a deadline’, said Napoleon Hill.

Signing up to Run Melbourne is setting a deadline to do something you may have once thought wasn’t possible. When I got told I was going to be a Run Melbourne Ambassador, the first thing I said was “you realise I don’t run?”

Soon enough, I laced up my sneakers with a new goal to chase and have absolutely loved every literal step of the process. I urge those who are thinking about doing it to step into action, commit, sign up and making those dreams a reality!

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

That uplifting buzz I’ll get as we take off from the starting line!

I’ll be running through my favourite city surrounded by go-getters as the anticipation builds of crossing the finish line with the celebrations that are sure to follow.
