Singer, actress, fashion star…there’s not a lot that Jessica Mauboy can’t do, and if her resume wasn’t already impressively long, she’s adding ambassador to her CV. Joining forces with Target, Jess is the new face of the fashionably revamped womenswear range. We speak to her about the role, what trends are on her radar, and what every woman should have in their wardrobe.
Congratulations on the new role! How does it feel to be working with such a recognised and iconic retailer?
I am so excited to be the New Face of Target Womenswear – it sounds a bit cheesy but its kind of a dream come true. I have always shopped at Target and worn their product since I was young girl and with womenswear undergoing a recent style transformation – I am really proud to share my style and theirs with Australia.
You’ve already been a part of a campaign with Target, the spectacular VAMFF runway; how did the partnership evolve?
Target originally invited me to perform two songs at their VAMFF runway show which quickly evolved in to me walking the runway and showing of their new Autumn Winter 15 looks. It was so nerve racking but I really had a ball so when the opportunity came up for me to work longer term with the brand and womenswear I jumped at it.
Target has been transforming into a serious competitor to the high street, making fashion its priority; has fashion always been something you’ve been interested in?
Oh my gosh yes! As a performer I love having fun with how I look on stage and my style has only become stronger and more defined over the years. I am so much more confident in my fashion and love to play with trends, textures and colours depending on my mood, where I am, who I am with and what I am doing. Target is so on trend and will no doubt continue to transform their womenswear so I can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
What trends have you been loving this season?
This season I am all about the flowy trench coats, boxy and structured tops & pencil skirts. I also love a simple high-waisted skinny jean or boyfriend cut and I cant go past a great biker jacket…it works with any look.
In your opinion, what should every woman have in their wardrobe?
A great pair of jeans, a leather jacket and a fun pair of heels!
