The Night Noodle Markets will once again transform Birrarung Marr into a bustling Asian street food festival from this Thursday and giving Melburnians eighteen balmy nights to embark on a vibrant flavour journey through Asia. With more than twenty sizzling hawker-style stalls, served alongside DJs, live music and the city’s stunning nightscape, visitors can explore the Asian market stalls along the riverside, and then find a coveted spot on the grassy hillside overlooking the markets, taking in the strong scents of aromatic smoke and exotic spices as the sun sets.

Ahead of the Night Noodle Market, we caught up with three stallholders to get a preview of what’s on offer and what we can look forward to!

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Night Noodle Market?

To serve thousands of people, who love this ever-growing event by our David’s & Oriental Tea House teams. We are eager to contribute to this meaningful activity.

Tell us a bit about what you’re serving up this year at the Night Noodle Market?

We have our 2 brands David’s & Oriental Teahouse co-hosting this year. We will serve Peking Duck pancakes, Salt & Pepper Calamari & our signature Sticky Pork Belly & rice for David’s.

Oriental Teahouse will serve our most popular dumplings – Chilli Wagyu Beef, Ginger Prawn Dumplings & Pork & Chive Pan Fried Dumpling. We have selected the absolute best for people who come after work and are hungry for quality food and good times, so they will be ready for their challenges on next day and have good memories of the event.

What’s your favourite dish on your menu and what is usually the customer’s favourite dish that’s part of your repertoire?

The favourite would have to be the Sticky Pork Belly, it’s a signature of David’s, reminds me of my childhood. Oriental Teahouse, it would be the Chilli Wagyu Beef dumplings, this to me represents Melbourne, the flavours are innovative, and the fundamentals of the dumpling itself are classic.

What we mostly look forward to is being part of such a fun filled event filled with lots of aromas creating an Asian culinary experience starting from entree, main and then of course our amazing ‘waffle on a stick’ dessert.

Waffleland will be serving up our Asian inspired menu created uniquely for Night Noodle Markets.

Menu includes-

  • Bangkok Night- oozes of warm Nutella drizzled over a fresh baked waffle stick.
  • Lucky Fortune- Lychee and caramel syrup served up over a fresh baked waffle stick.
  • Dancing Dragon- Melted chocolate drizzled over a fresh baked waffle stick.
  • Black Banda- Maple Syrup sprinkled with black sesame.

All available with ice cream & fresh strawberries.

What’s your favourite dish on your menu and what is usually the customer’s favourite dish that’s part of your repertoire?

Our favourite dish on our menu would have to be our bespoke Cheeky Monkey – it’s for a limited time only. It’s served up with peanut butter and ice cream topped with fresh sliced bananas, salty pretzels, drizzled with caramel syrup and finished off with wafer sticks. Having said all this sometimes our customers do struggle with their choice!! Nutella and Melted Chocolate are pretty awesome as well and we find our customers do like to mix these classics with Asian topping such as Lychee.
