Any Milan history guide you read through if you’re looking to put together a trip to Italy will rave about Milan Fashion Week, one of the oldest traditions in Milan. Milan Fashion Week celebrated minimal chic in the beauty department, with hair taking on different forms of natural aesthetics, while skin remained soft, understated, nude and elegant. Couturing summarizes the top looks with the help of Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau, bringing you the best of runway beauty that Milan had to offer.
Guido Palau refrained from hairspray altogether at Alberta Ferretti, opting for a more undone look this season. Instead, Guido applied Redken guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to create as much natural texture and volume as possible. Before loosely braiding the hair, Guido used a curling iron around the hairline to create even more volume. Natural make-up complemented the look, with soft dewy complexions and warm-tone lips to match
To amplify the natural texture of the hair, Guido applied Redken Powder Refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo to create a laid-back, yet clearly articulated rocker-chick look. This California cool hairstyle, reminiscent of the late 80s LA rock scene, works seamlessly with Versace’s Spring Summer 2013 collection. Make-up was of an elegant conviction, with dramatic kohl lined eyes taking center stage against nude lips and skin.
Guido used Redken Guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to create a light texture to the hair this season. Guido kept the hair low-key and simple, making the Prada girl appear unintentionally stylish and cool, and created a low-cut across the forehead to simulate a more youthful look. In order to further unify the girls, each models’ hair was coloured to create a flat, monotone colour scheme. While there are still variations in colour, from blonde to red to brown to black, the colours themselves are muted. Make-up was also kept low key with soft definition in warm palette tones.
Guido created a fresh and sophisticated look by allowing the model’s freshly washed hair to dry naturally. Once the hair’s natural texture was apparent, Guido utilized key styling products to either add more texture to the hair or tame frizz and flyaways.
Guido kept the hair minimalistic and modern, drawing inspiration from the designer herself. He used Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to create a polished and soft texture to the hair. Guido further softened the low ponytail by loosening a few strands of hair around each model’s face. Slightly disrupting this otherwise pulled together look, Guido introduced an element of fragility. Make-up was also inspired by the ‘innocent heroine’ aesthetic, with milk-maid flushed skin, soft rosy lips and natural eye shading in nudes and muted browns.
Guido continued to work with natural textures however he created a bit more style by using three key products to accentuate elements of shine and control. Once the hair was prepped to dry naturally with Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine, Guido generously applied Redken Shine Flash 02 glistening mist to flatten the top and boost shine from root to ends. To lock in the look, Guido finished with Redken Control Addict 28 high hold hairspray. With a minimalist approach to makeup, a frosted palette was utilized to create a cool-toned look that complemented the pieces worn down the runway.
