Toni Maticevski’s Resort girl is tough. She still has the essence of elegance fundamental to Maticevski’s design aesthetic, but there is something grittier and stronger about this girl. She not only embodies a woman with a fuck you attitude but she is quietly confident, almost amazonian in her strength.

An air of sophistication is woven throughout Maticevski’s Resort collection, brought to life with feminine, voluminous silhouettes , juxtaposed against tailored, body hugging forms, designed to flatter the female figure. Peppered with attitude, pops of fluro orange, cobalt blue and shocks of orchid green, break up the purer black, white palette. The off the shoulder cuts, designed to expose and draw attention to the delicate decolletage, conveys a sense of vulnerability.

Putting a grittier twist on the freshness of his SS14 collection presented at Australian Fashion Week, Maticevski continues his love of the orchid, with a striking photographic print of the dynamic flower giving life to dramatic silhouettes, providing the perfect balance between strength and fragility.

However, unlike the princesses in fables that wait for their prince to come along and rescue them, one senses that the Maticevski woman, swathed in his effortless designs which wrap around her like an armour, is more than strong enough to save herself.
