12 December 2012 marked the first anniversary of Manuscript, a quarterly broadsheet publication launched in November 2011 for a new generation of creative, forward-thinking men. To mark the launch of the summer edition, issue five, Manuscript held a celebratory gathering in Sydney, bringing together the city’s most beautiful and creative bright young things at the famed Luxe Studios.

Iconic local butcher Victor Churchill provided a festive spread, including a glazed ham, roasted turkey, cheese platter, antipasto platters and Christmas desserts. A designated whiskey bar from Gentleman Jack served up Old Fashioned’s and ginger cocktails, while across the room yet another bar served BIRD in HAND wines and sparkling, Peroni and Santa Vittoria.

The event also showcased an exclusive project featured in the new issue, where 6 contemporary artists customised outfits from 6 Australian labels. The arresting results of this series were exhibited on mannequins within the space. Magazine founders Mitchell Oakley Smith and Joylon Mason were joined in celebration by actors Benedict Samuel, Sean Keenan, Tim Pollock, Caleb Alloway and James Mackay, as well Romance Was Born’s Luke Sales and ksubi’s Mikey Nolan.

Manuscript’s summer edition will be marked with a new distribution strategy, the title now available from traditional newsagents across the country for the first time, in addition to an existing stockist base of art galleries (including National Gallery of Victoria, Museum of Contemporary Art and Queensland Art Gallery), book stores (including Ariel Booksellers) and menswear boutiques (including luxury menswear department store Harrolds). Beyond Australia, Manuscript is now available at selected bookstores and newsagents in the United Kingdom, Dubai, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand as a result of increased international interest over the past 12 months. Issue five features 14 up-and-coming Australian actors appearing in television, film and stage productions throughout 2013.
