Jane Iredale has become synonymous with natural skincare and beauty. It’s no wonder that it’s become a cult brand with a range of mineral makeup that suits all types of skin. Known for its natural skincare makeup range, the Jane Iredale range began with founder Jane Iredale starting the company in 1994, the first to supply the industry with a line of makeup that also had skincare benefits.
She was inspired to develop a makeup that was good for the skin by her career in the entertainment industry where she saw actresses and models struggling with the ill-effects of the many kinds of makeup they wore.  Her experience in working with women whose careers depended on a clear complexion allowed her to see how skin disorders and sensitivities not only threatened careers, but also destroyed self-confidence.  Her goal was to make products that looked good, felt good and were good for the skin. That is why her mineral powders are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen in one and are good for the skin.
Couturing was lucky enough to sit down with Jane and find out more about the brand and some of her skincare and makeup secrets.

What products do you have in your makeup bag?
I always use our Pure Pressed Base which is a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one.  Just brush a little on for the perfect complexion.  And it lets the skin breathe and function normally, too. Although I change up on blush and eye shadows, I never deviate from our Lash Conditioner and Longest Lash Mascara in Espresso. I’ll often put Tantasia on my legs as a moisturizer and for some color.  I find I wear it year round.

What is your skincare regime?
I use our Magic Mitt and then everything else I buy from my health food store.  So I don’t buy by brand.  I buy according to the ingredient label and then I test for performance.  Once I find something I like, I’m faithful to it for years. I always take my makeup off at night.  It doesn’t matter how pure the makeup is, it collects pollutants and toxins all day long and you definitely don’t want to go to bed with those on your face.
As we move out of Winter, what are some of the key skincare products that you would recommend for us to soothe dry winter skin?
After months of winter cold and dehydrating heaters, the first order of business is to put moisture back into the skin.  Start with a good moisturizer applied while the skin is still damp from cleansing.  Next use a generous drop of a moisturizing primer like our Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener.

This will help makeup adhere, smooth skin’s texture and provide a hydrated finish to the skin.  Wake up your skin with a BB cream that will provide beautiful, even color without looking heavy.  Try to find products that also help you to hold in your skin’s moisture.  The more you can hang on to the better your skin will be.  Our Tinted Moisturizer has algae extracts that do just that.
Since you founded the company in 1994, what are the key highlights/milestones of the brand?
Amazing Base & PurePressed Base 2014
This year marks our 20th anniversary. When we incorporated, we started with five shades of loose minerals. Over the past 20 years, we have expanded the line to include more than 400 products, and we’re now available in 43 countries around the world.  As The Skin Care Makeup, we introduced something unprecedented—makeup that also nurtures skin—and I believe we changed the landscape of the industry. It is our mission to deliver personal, uplifting beauty that is as good for the skin as it is beautiful to wear, and we are committed to continued innovation in the spa category. I know the next 20 years will be even more incredible than the last.

Do you have any skincare tips for men as we move into Spring?
The same goes for men. Bring moisture back into the skin with a light moisturizer that contains SPF.
