Australia will have its very own version of the internationally renowned lifestyle magazine, Elle, with the first publication scheduled for September. The Editor-in-Chief of the new magazine is Justine Cullen, who recently left magazine Shop ‘Til You Drop to take on the role. At the launch, a runway show paraded a stunning showcase of Australia’s finest fashion designers, from Collette Dinnigan, Josh Goot and Zimmerman. The event was a stunning celebration of the launch of a spectacular magazine.

Redken, the official hair partner of MBFWA for six years, styled the hair for the models walking the runway.  Hair Directors, Paloma Rose Garcia and Jon Pulitano, created two stunning looks for the runway that they believed suited the special occasion.

The first look that was styled was labelled the “wet hair look”. Models’ hair was sleek and straight brushed off the face in a low side part. Garcia said the look was “polished and refined” which suited the diverse outfits presented. The hair was blow-dried straight and worn down tucked behind models’ ears. Such a simple hair look is easy to recreate at home and for the runway, it worked beautifully to give “a nice consistency” to the fashions on show.  Garcia explained “the high shine was key” to giving the simple look some serious hair appeal.

The second style that was used in the show was a  “sleek low bun”. Hair was parted in the centre and pulled back from the face into a low bun. Pulitano says, high shine was also key to this “versatile hair style”.  The simplicity of the look means it suits almost any fashion choice and was a “great modern foundation” that worked well on the runway. Effortlessly elegant, the bun is easy to recreate at home for a chic polished hair look.

Sleek polished hair has proven popular across many international fashion festivals this year and is the kind of style that can easily be recreated at home. To get the look, you can use Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine, which is designed to strengthen hair and leave it smooth and glossy. Redken Hard Wear 16 Super Strong Sculpting Gel will help give your sleek hair-do staying power and is the perfect tool to recreate the low bun.
