Private school girls, the football team, ageing population and expensive real-estate are all terms you may have associated with the suburb of Hawthorn. How rude! There is so much more to this Eastern beauty. We spent a day there foraging for hidden treasures; here’s what we found.

Alley Tunes

660A Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn

Nestled between an antique bookshop and Glenferrie Station, Alley Tunes is the prime location for a much-needed caffeine pick-me-up. Catering to students with $2.50 take away coffees, this little guy is the ideal solution to your loose change. The aesthetics alone brings charm and intrigue to this delightful record, CD and coffee shop. The cafe plays tunes to every taste, boasts a prime location and offers authentic Belgian Waffles – need you need anything more? We don’t think so.

Tana Café.

36 Church Steet, Hawthorn

Tana Cafe is an antique ridden, rustic but charismatic café that nestles in the heart of Hawthorn. The vege burger is what draws the locals in; with freshly baked bread hugging a home-made vegetable patty bread, you’ll leave Tana feeling light, fresh and full to the brim.
