The limited edition Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell sneakers which are hand-painted in Margiela’s trademark white paint have already sold out worldwide, with every fashion-mad sneaker lover clamouring to get their hands on a pair. Up There Store are the exclusive retailer for the collection in Australia, with only 70 pairs available to buy.

Matt Sleep, Converse Senior First String Designer said of the collaboration, “Converse is thrilled to partner with Maison Martin Margiela. The collection perfectly embodies each brand’s spirit of individuality and self-expression unifying Converse and Margiela’s conviction of unleashing creativity.”

As the shoes get worn, the white paint gradually wears off, revealing the true colours of the shoes underneath. Speaking about the inspiration behind the design, Maison Martin Margiela said “The Maison has always been obsessed with which; it is used as a layer to give an incognito feeling. A sort of poetry, with the passage of time, the shoe asserts itself.”

The shoes were displayed on quirky platforms, designed to echo the designs of the shoes, white with colourful cracks. Guests were treated to canapes, drinks and a specially made dessert from Burch & Purchese. To celebrate the launch in Australia, Up There Store and Converse had a pair of the limited edition sneakers one of the lucky attendees. I was lucky enough to be this lucky attendee so walked away with my very own pair of Margiela Chuck Taylor All Star high-tops which is sure to take pride of place in my wardrobe!

Get yourself a pair of these limited edition shoes from Up There Store, 1/11-15 McKillip Street, Melbourne.
