Armadale’s newest local gem, Wine 1160, brings a wine focused bar to High Street where locals or destination drinkers can experience the best in wine and food.

Unlike many other establishments, Wine 1160 creates its menu to complement the wine and focuses on independent artisans producers. The carefully selected wine choices represent the values and practices of the makers themselves and the 160-strong list has been tailored to match the preferences of locals.

What also makes Wine 1160 special is that benchmark wines usually only sold by the bottle become available by the glass and means that you can try a variety of different wines by the glass, enhancing your experience.

The food menu reflects a desire to create dishes that complement the wines on offer. Crafted by Chefs Sarah Porz (Valentino) and Michele Curtis, the menu consists of a range of small tastes, highlighting wine bar staples such as cheese, olives and charcuterie. Each dish has a suggested wine pairing and it’s worth taking note of what those in the know, have put together.

Indulgent snacks such as popcorn with gruyere salt and spiced crunchy chickpeas are expected to be crowd favourites. Both these dishes have been curated to match specific wines, the NV André Clouet ‘Grande Reserve’ Brut and Amrut ‘skin contact’ Pinot Gris respectively.

The popcorn with gruyere salt was a magical more-ish dish. The saltiness of the popcorn and sweet, salty and nutty flavours of the finely shredded gruyere was the perfect accompaniment to the subtle flavours of the NV Andre Clouet ‘Grande Reserve’, whilst the spiced crunchy chickpeas are spiced just enough to give a hint of heat to match the Pinot Gris.

The menu also caters for slightly larger dishes with vegetarian and meat options alike. Perfect for groups to share a few dishes such as the delicious Spiced eggplant or Meatballs, cardamom and turmeric

Or if you have a sweet tooth then I’d definitely recommend the pink lamingtons which were just magnificent. Perfectly moist sponge squares with a hint of moscato and coconut matched with a beautifully sweet yet refreshing moscato from Piedmont in Italy.

Wine 1160 is located at 1160 High Street Armadale and will be open from 12pm – 11pm from Wednesday to Sunday, 3pm-11pm Monday and closed Tuesdays.
