Gemma wears the Amour Push UP Bra and Briefs from Simone Pérèle

As one of the top 5 finalists for Simone Pérèle’s Curvy Model Search Competition in 2014, Couturing Fashion Editor Gemma Watts knows lingerie. As a model signed with BGM, Gemma is a strong advocate for body confidence. We caught up with her to get her thoughts on why it’s important to invest in beautiful underwear, how she keeps fit and what her everyday luxury is.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I scroll through Instagram the second my eyes are open. I know that makes me sound tech dependant and it’s so not glamorous, but it’s so important for me to be on top of everything going on in the fashion industry. While we’re asleep, big fashion news could be breaking anywhere in the world.

Where in the world would you love to spend one night and why?

Paris. Because it’s Paris. Every corner of that city is devastatingly beautiful- arguably even more so after the sun sets.

It’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of everyday life. Why do you think it’s important to not only take the time to invest in beautiful lingerie, but to wear it every day too?

I’ve always seen fashion as an extension of self, and I don’t believe that should be limited to our outerwear. Wearing beautiful lingerie honestly makes me feel beautiful, even if it’s just under denim and a cotton tee. Wearing beautiful lingerie under your everyday wear is like a little secret you’re sharing with yourself.

What’s one piece of lingerie every woman should own?

A piece that makes them feel incredibly sexy. It differs for everyone. It could be a pair of simple black briefs, or an elaborate red lace bra, but every woman should own a piece that makes them walk a little taller and hold themselves with more confidence.

You have an amazing body, how do you keep in shape?

Over time I’ve learnt that the more I change up my workouts, the greater impact is has on my body. I trained as a dancer for 18 years, so my workouts today still have an emphasis on elongating the muscles. I’ve always loved to run, and I like to change things up by adding some yoga, pilates, and high impact circuit training.

Marilyn Monroe once famously said she just wears Chanel No 5 to sleep. What do you wear to bed?

Printed satin jammies! Wearing something lovely to sleep makes me feel less lethargic when I drag myself out of bed in the morning.

When do you feel most sexiest?

When I’m on holidays. I feel sexiest wearing no makeup, a tan on my skin and salt in my hair.

What’s your everyday luxury?

Surrounding myself with loved ones. And dark chocolate.
