South Yarra locals’ prayers are answered; much-loved brunch venue House of Lulu White has launched Lulu Afterdark that features an eclectic new menu and range of funky night offers.

Located on the bustling Yarra Street in Melbourne’s South Yarra, Lulu White has been the day queen of the bottomless brunch for five years. Now it’s time for her to spread the wings and become the lady of the night! House of Lulu White is the place to go for espresso shots in the morning and espresso martinis after dark.

The venue has a newly appointed head chef, Sornram Phadungphot (known as Men), who has created a menu that takes the evening dining  options up a notch. The menu highlights  quality produce and is reflective of his diverse experience in the kitchen both in his native Thailand and Australia – inspiration is from modern  Australian, Asian and European cuisine.

The food

Lulu Afterdark features good quality sharing plates as well as small bites if you’re visiting for a drink or two.  The sharing small and large plates feature a nice selection that should cater for most palates. A couple of the highlights include the spicy watermelon – a modern dish that was a delightful combination of sweet, spicy (chilli)  and salty (bonito flakes). It is refreshing but also full of flavour. Another stand out is the torched Atlantic salmon with poppyseed dressing and pickled daikon, Korean chilli and prawn crackers. The balance of flavours and textures makes this dish memorable, especially the poppyseed dressing which brings the dish together.  Pork Neck skewers are also juicy and soft with a delectable sauce made of black vinegar and cured egg. The sauce is the right amount of tartness and richness to deliver something you want to order again. The build-your-own Bao with Confit Duck Leg, buttermilk and tahini dressing, prune and passionfruit is a fun dish, although it is very filling. The confit duck leg’s crispy skin is a nice juxtaposition with the softness of the bao.

Sweet tooths won’t be disappointed, with indulgent dessert options including Blackberry, milk pudding, dulce de leche and butter crumble, and Caramelised figs and mascarpone sandwich, burnt milk tuile, cacao powder and bay leaf oil.

The Caramelised figs and mascarpone sandwich is a rich and indulgent way to finish the meal.

The drinks

Lulu‘s signature cocktails are a must for your visit. Enjoy the Glossy French, a mix of vodka, pineapple juice and Chambord, or the Purple Haze, a mix of Lavender syrup, gin and lemon juice, both are a brilliant addition to your meal – fresh and fruity. The wine list features  A wine list features Australian drops from Heathcote to the Margaret River.

With Happy Hour every Thursday and Friday, a Fill Me Up menu offer, an All-In 2hr Drinks offer and music every night – Lulu Afterdark is a great addition to the venue that is already known for their brunch and lunch offerings. Plus it’s conveniently located next to South Yarra station so no excuses to not indulge in the delicious cocktails on offer!
