Length, volume, separation and drama are generally the four elements we strive to achieve when applying mascara. Proper mascara application is key when attempting to achieve full, flirty lashes. Although application may seem straightforward, these tips will help you get the most out of your mascara.

1. Be sure to curl your eyelashes prior to applying mascara. Begin with clean, dry lashes. Although you can slightly curl your lashes with the wand, curling them prior to application preps them for precise application, and helps the mascara glide on smoothly.

2. To apply, move the lash wand straight up the eyelashes rather than outwards. This will make the lashes appear longer (moving them outwards is a common mistake, and will make them appear much shorter and clumpier). To get the most out of your mascara, blink, then wiggle the brush through the lashes. Repeat 2-3 times.

3. Mascara layering the best way to achieve the same effect as false lashes. Use a defining mascara first, to separate lashes. Follow with a lengthening mascara and finish with a volumising mascara to obtain fuller lashes.  Ensure you have a lash comb on hand to obliterate any clumps while mascara layering. Ensure you leave the mascara dry for at least one minute or so before applying the next coat, as otherwise the mascaras will combine rather than layer.

4. Do not forget the top of your lashes. Be sure to apply mascara here to attain fullness.

Tips:

Never pump the wand back into the case. Pushing the air back in will not only cause your mascara to dry out more rapidly, but it will also encourage nasty bacteria into the tube (which you do not want anywhere near your eye area!)

If you accidentally get mascara on your skin, the easiest way to remove is with a cotton tip dabbed in a little bit of water or eye make up remover. Wait until the mascara is dry and the gently swipe over the area.

If you do not have an eyelash curler handy, hold a teaspoon up to your eyelid when applying mascara. This will curl your lashes (and remove any chance of mascara on lid).
