UGLY DUCKLING OPENS ON SWAN STREET

The newest addition to the bourgeoning dining and bar scene on Swan Street is Ugly Duckling. The Hecker Guthrie designed wine bar is the culmination of years of deliberation between David Abela (Founder of 3 Degrees Marketing) and Andrew Ryan (Managing Director of Mitchelton Wines and Director of Melbourne Pub Group) and more recently, Daniel Vid, who has been a business and operations manager to some of Melbourne’s most respected hospitality venues.

Located at 238 Swan Street, the former site of Melbourne’s first department store Balls Corner, The Ugly Duckling reflects a high-end residential living space with an intimate, yet sophisticated design aesthetic. Inspiration was drawn from the owners’ love of entertaining and design; the space a natural extension of their private homes.

The charming, light-filled rear seating area features a large, central glass atrium, an original heritage listed feature of the building. Combined with black framed Raphia chairs nestled under trees, the restrained palette of colour and material creates the feeling of being outside. This makes for a soft distinction from the dark, mood-lit feel at the entrance, where the monolithic bar takes centre stage.

Featuring a specially curated wine list, custom cocktails and neat pours, The Ugly Duckling showcases a selection of the finest local and international beverages. Supported by an experienced sommelier and Nick Selvadurai, the 2015 Asia Pacific Belvedere Cocktail Challenge champion, guests will no doubt enjoy the knowledge and experience the bar team offers. As an accompaniment, guests can enjoy a selection of antipasto style food including warm olives, charcuterie, cheese boards and chocolate.

REMEDY KOMBUCHA

Remedy Kombucha_Ginger and Lemon_individual

Melbourne-made company, Remedy Kombucha, is reviving an age-old tradition and encouraging Australians to love their guts with a range of sparkling, live cultured drinks that are not only incredibly good for you, they taste delicious too.

Put simply, kombucha (“kom-boo-cha”) is a tea-based drink, made through a fermentation process involving a natural culture known as ‘the mother’. The process results in the production of healthy, living bacteria known as probiotics, which are great for your gut, aid digestion and are widely believed to have energising, detoxifying and healing properties.

Frustrated with the prevalence of unhealthy and overly processed foods and beverages on the market, Remedy Kombucha’s Co-Founders Sarah and Emmet Condon are pushing for change. After discovering, first-hand, the benefits of consuming fermented foods, the couple are now on a mission to share their knowledge with the masses and have channelled their passion into creating their own range of kombucha that can be enjoyed by all.

Committed to maintaining tradition, Remedy Kombucha is brewed in small batches, the old-fashioned way. Using whole, certified organic ingredients the kombucha is produced using a long-aged brewing process which results in beneficial bacteria and extra healthy yeasts that are good for the gut.

Remedy Kombucha can be enjoyed in three flavours; straight-up Original, the flowery, flirty and fiery Hibiscus Kiss, and Ginger Lemon, a classic with a twist.
