Introducing Hochi Mama, Melbourne’s latest laneway hotspot where Vietnamese street flavour collides with a vibrant 90s attitude.

Co-owners Midawell Phal, Thai Ho and Raymond Phan were motivated by happy childhood memories in Springvale, and wanted to recreate the authentic Vietnamese cooking they are familiar with in a contemporary city setting.

Hochi Mama has a strong focus on celebrating fresh quality ingredients, allowing simplicity to speak without comprising the authenticity of flavours. With a kitchen headed by chef Seddon Frew (formerly from Chapel Street’s Susie Wong), the menu pays tribute to well-known Vietnamese classics such as fresh rice paper rolls, crispy prawn spring rolls, and nem nuong (freshly grilled pork sausage skewers). Paired with a drinks list bursting with Asian-inspired cocktails and cold beers, you just can’t go wrong. We love the Thai-Chi, Hochi Mama’s signature cocktail that combines coconut juice, lychee syrup, malibu and belvedere to quench that summer thirst.

Other dishes on the menu demonstrate a contemporary flair and reflect the owners’ youthful and personal styles. Think Crispy Pork Belly Banh Mi Sliders, Sticky Braised Beef Short Ribs, and Pho’plings (dumpling filled with pho broth and pulled beef). As Hochi Mama’s signature dish, the Pho’plings are the very embodiment of Melbourne’s incredible melting pot of world cultures.

The eclectic menu is topped off with some absolutely incredible desserts. The Pandan Creme Brûlée is an absolute must. Cracking open the amazing salty-sweet brûléed top reveals a ridiculously creamy and fragrant centre. Believe us, this is not a dessert for sharing.

Tucked away in Liverpool Street, this newly refurbished warehouse is adorned with street art, creating a fun and relaxing environment as guests share small bites and large sharing plates. With an unbeatable soundtrack of 90 hip hop classics, the versatile 70-seater space is the perfect spot for a quick lunchtime bite or long dinners with friends, and can also cater for corporate and cocktail functions.
