Following the move to the city last year, Stokehouse City has become a popular venue for enjoying a long lunch, dinner or special occasion. After being in the city location for the past year, Frank van Haandel and his team noticed that this part of the city was missing a more casual bar and eating destination. So began the renovation and change to the downstairs offering at Stokehouse City, to what is now called [Stoke] Bar + Kitchen. The new venue aims to offer a relaxed bar and eating experience where you can catch up for a quick drink, enjoy a few bar nibbles, or stay for a substantial meal.

“We saw a gap in this area for a relaxed offering, and when it came to the downstairs bar it really didn’t have its own identity, so we have launched a whole new separate venue with its very own personality, look and offering,” said Frank.

“We want [Stoke] Bar + Kitchen to be somewhere where you can pop by to have a quick drink with a friend or stay around for a more substantial casual meal, any time of the day,” added Frank.

The bar offers a selection of wines that start from $8 a glass from Shadowfax and Michael Hall, and an emphasis on craft beers including Furphy, a Kosch style refreshing ale and stocked at [Stoke] Bar + Kitchen exclusively, as well Little Creatures stout offering, “Return Of The Dread”.

The food menu has been designed by [Stoke] Bar + Kitchen head chef Sam Webb, working in consultation with Stokehouse City Executive chef Ollie Gould, and is to be enjoyed with a drink from the bar at any time of the day and includes marinated white anchovies & peppers on toast, salt cod & speck croquettes on sweet corn puree, Blackmore’s breasola & salami plate, beef tartare, capers, celery and bonito, sugar cured kingfish, fennel, pepperoncino and avocado, or for those wanting a more substantial meals (or love an old Stokehouse favourite) the Prawn & Crab Linguine or Ollie’s Fish Pie are the perfect option.

[Stoke] Bar + Kitchen will also offer the Cellar, a function space to the side of the venue, which can cater for up to 44 sit down or 60 stand up, and is perfect for a special occasion or work function.

[Stoke] Bar + Kitchen is open from 11am for coffee or 12pm onwards for drinks and food, so be it popping in for a quick drink and lunch, drink after work, or casual dinner it has you covered.
