Target is helping to ensure the future of Australian fashion shines bright, launching a capsule collection with rising star Gabrielle Brown. As part of Target’s partnership with the 2014 National Graduate Showcase during Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, the retailer awarded Brown the most lucrative student fashion prize in Australia which included a $25,000 prize and a contract with the ‘Designers for Target’ program which recently launched collections from Missoni, Dannii Minogue & Curtis Stone.

Target Managing Director, Stuart Machin, said the prestigious initiative allowed Target to be a launching pad for young fashion designers and demonstrated Target’s commitment to supporting emerging local talent.

“Target is dedicated to helping identify and nurture emerging Australian talent and we are committed to investing in the future of Australian fashion,” Mr Machin said.

“Designer collaborations are important as they allow us to offer our customers premium fashionable product at affordable prices that they cannot buy elsewhere.”

The 18-piece capsule collection incorporates a refined and minimalist range of transeasonal jersey tops, wrap and knit dresses, shorts and tailored pants juxtaposed with classic pieces to be worn from day-to-night.

Brown, 23, from Mill Park in Melbourne said the opportunity has been priceless in gaining insight into the rigors and complexities of the fashion industry.

“On a day-to-day basis we had meetings to talk through progress and we liaised directly with manufacturers to check fabrication and line development, it has been an invaluable experience,” Brown said.

Gabrielle Brown’s capsule collection is available 40 stores Australia wide and online at target.com.au
