For many off us, we switch off once we leave the office, however, fashion designers often keep working, often getting up early and working long into the night. While fashion might seem like a glamourous industry, it requires a lot of dedication to create a label with longevity.
Violeta Tentomas, designer and owner of leather label West 14th, knows all about hard work. Taking inspiration from her travels to New York, Violeta created West 14th, a brand focusing on creating beautiful leather jackets which combine an urban attitude with head-turning elegance. We caught up with Violeta to find out what a typical day in the life of a fashion designer entails.
6:30am: Wake up and go for a morning walk at Bondi Beach. Grab a coffee from my local.
7:45am: Face time Sister in snowy NYC. Chat through upcoming trip details and wedding stuff (she’s getting hitched in November.)
8am: Shower & dress in my West 14th High Line shorts in black with the Mott Street Silk Tank in black. Gab the Ludlow Motor Jacket in white for later. (It’s a monochromatic sort of day)
9am: Eat Breakfast (muesli with almond milk & fresh blueberries and strawberries) while answering international emails. Planning details for NYC trade show and photo shoot later in February.
10am: Range Review and pricing meeting for new season collection presenting to buyers later this month.
12noon: Working through details of the digital strategy for new season launch to consumers.
1pm: Grab a yummy Salmon & Avocado roll on the go. Sneak in some Instagram –therapy before the next meeting.
2pm: Skype product ‘fitting’ meeting with Hong Kong office and Sydney team.
4:30pm: Escape for afternoon Yoga. Peace – finally!
6:30pm: We’re making Chilean Empanadas – start on prepping. Later this year, we are travelling South America so we have nominated one night a week to eat, drink & research all things South American.
9:30pm: Final check of emails and sneak in some pinning on Pinterest.
