I will admit, when the word ‘Spring’ first came to mind, my initial thought was floral prints, a bright colour palette (cliché, I know) and hayfever. It was very pleasing to see that most designers did not give in to the aesthetic norm of the season and instead, ventured down the opposite path. With most designers preferring the subtle colours of tans, whites, browns, greys and earthy tones for their collections, Burberry especially stood out from the fashion pack injecting metallic pieces in their Spring colour story. After reviewing almost 60 collections, the ones that stood out for me, out of what felt like a never ending stream of similar silhouettes and shades, were the Salvatore Ferragamo, Burberry Prorsum, Carven, Costume Nationa, Marni, Marc Jacobs and Fendi collections.

From what I can see, a more tamed, clean cut and sophisticated silhouette was introduced for men next Spring. I can also see the use of less prints and more bold colours, with most of the collections going for a minimal look. This simplified take on men’s fashion appealed more to my own style aesthetic. Bringing back the look of the classic suits, Prince of Wales checks and classic pinstripes, I was reminded of a young Dorian Gray. The up and coming trend of a Sports inspired take on comtempo-casual was also present in the collections of Bottega Veneta, Christopher Raeburn, Marc Jacobs and more significantly in Topman Designs.
