Melbourne’s iconic Riverland Bar is turning up the heat this spring with the launch of MEXI by Riverland Bar, a vibrant new Tex-Mex pop-up serving up fiery flavours, eye-catching cocktails, and laid-back fiesta vibes on the Yarra.

Launching last week, MEXI transforms the beloved waterfront venue, tucked just below Federation Square, into a colourful, sun-soaked beer garden perfect for breezy afternoons and balmy nights. Expect bold dishes, playful twists on Mexican classics, and drinks designed to make your Insta pop.

The MEXI menu is all about big flavours and unexpected pairings. One of the early crowd (and staff) favourites? The MEXI Pocket, a cheeseburger meets empanada that delights. This golden, deep-fried masa pastry oozes with melted cheese, tangy pickles, and onions. It’s indulgent, satisfying, and totally made for sharing… or not.

Other must-tries include the Skillet O’ Cheese (yes, it bubbles), a sweet-meets-crunchy Sweet Treat Taco, and MEXI’s house-made salsa, grilled and blended for the ultimate flavour kick.

No Tex-Mex experience is complete without a killer cocktail list, and MEXI delivers. The Mexican Vice is their signature showstopper— a frozen swirl of margarita and paloma, topped with pineapple, a cherry, and (of course) a mini umbrella.

Also on pour: frozen jalapeño-spiked Spicy Savvy Bs, five different margarita flavours, and a solid selection of mezcals, tequila shots, and Mexican beers. Prefer your drinks booze-free? There’s a range of mocktails and icy draught favourites too.

“MEXI is all about fun, flavour, and that relaxed riverside vibe,” says Riverland Bar’s Venue Manager, Craig Fleeton. “It’s the kind of food and drink that’s perfect for sharing with friends, right in the heart of the city.”

Just in time for Spring Racing season, MEXI will be open Thursday evenings through Sunday sessions, making it the ultimate go-to for after-work drinks, long lunches, or spontaneous weekend catchups.
