You will never run out of things to do in the bustling city of Dubai, so to make it easy for you, over the next few days, I will be rounding up some of my favourite activities to keep you busy.

Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding

It’s easy to fear what we don’t understand, which is why if you are coming to Dubai, a visit to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding is not only enlightening, but it will give you the chance to gain a better understand of the unique culture of Dubai and its people.

You will be treated to a traditional Emirati cuisine which includes herb and spice infused rice, curried vegetables and salads, finished off with Emirati donuts with date syrup for dessert. While you eat, your host the engaging Sheikh Nasif demystifies common misconceptions about the culture and traditions. What could be a confronting discussion is made enjoyable with the Sheikh’s candid and willingness to talk about any topic, plus having a chat over lunch creates a relaxed vibe.

Old Dubai City Tour

If you want to experience the sites and hidden streets of this magical city, then Old Dubai is perfect for you. In true Amazing Race style, you and your team will be given an iPad which has GPS instructions which will direct you to designated check points around Dubai. You will be asked questions along the way which will teach you about the country’s history. You will be taken through Dubai’s character filled streets, through the Souks, Bastakiya and across the creek on the Abra Ride.

While it’s not a race, with the winner being the team who answers the most questions correct, I would definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet for 2 to 3 hours.

China Grill

The hottest new restaurant in Dubai is without a doubt China Grill located in Dubai’s Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina. With a distinctly New York vibe, echoing that of its US counterparts, China Grill is a lesson in Asian fusion cuisine with a distinctly international vibe.

Menu highlights include the extensive dim sum menu (Spicy Beef & Scallion Dumplings are Crab Dumplings are particular standouts), a delicious sashimi and sushi offering (you need to try the Seared Salmon and Wagu Beef) and a wide variety of large plates (Wild Mushroom Profusion Pasta and Ponzu Grilled Chicken). To accompany the main menu, there is a considerable drinks menu which will cater for even the fussiest palette.
