Couturing caught up with Kayla to find out more about her successful business, her secret to creating such beautiful scents and what she has planned for the future.

1. After studying Design-Communication Design, Interior Design and Business Management and Marketing, why did you decide to start up your own company Bombardier Designs?

After so many years of study and an ever-growing passion for design, I felt it was time to create my own brand and make my mark in the industry. I started Bombardier Designs while studying Communication Design, where I began to offer wedding stationary, tailored event invitations and my passion for chic luxe interiors led me to develop a chic monochromatic candle range that suited my home décor.

2. Where do you look for inspiration?

I am inspired by so many things; be it a luxe hotel interior; New York or European cities, architecture, interior blogs, movie sets and fashion magazines. It’s hard to pin point what inspires me most, I’m very lucky to feel so inspired to create everyday.

3. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced since starting your business?

I put my heart and soul into Bombardier Designs and I’ve been very fortunate to receive such a strong and loyal client base. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced a lot of copyright issues from new businesses that have the potential to tarnish our brand, however we’re working hard on protecting our brand and clients from these imitation designs.

4. You prefer to create your products from natural ingredients. Why do you think it’s important to do this and what are the benefits of using organic soy wax over regular wax?

Being environmentally friendly and health conscious, I only wanted to use natural ingredients inside my home. I’m cautious of what products I use at home and on my skin and wouldn’t recommend anything that I wouldn’t be comfortable using myself. As a former Dispensary Technician I know first hand how many chemicals are used in some mass produced skin care and candle products. By creating my own soy candle range gives me the freedom to use the purest organic ingredients and allows me to pass on the goodness to my clients.

5. You have made creative candle scents such as Fresh Rain, Chai Latte and Fresh Berries. What is the process behind creating your scents and candles?

I create scents that are reminiscent of fond memories such as the smell of fresh rain after a storm or catching up with friends over a Chai Latte. Each scent is almost like a gateway to a beautiful memory and it always makes me happy to hear that my clients feel the same way.

6. As part of your business, you create event stationary. What process do you undertake when designing for special occasions?

I have been very lucky to work with such lovely customers, who approach me because they like my style and designs. We have a quick consult about their design expectations, where I begin to understand their personality and events needs. From here I give them a unique design that displays the clients personality. When you run your own business, life can get pretty busy!

7. What do you like to do to unwind?

I never realized how time consuming it is to own your own business, I don’t often get time to relax. However when I do unwind it usually entails lighting Bombardier Designs soy candle in Roasted Coffee and French Vanilla, snuggling up on the couch with an interior magazine.

8. What do you have planned for Bombardier Designs over the next year?

We have some exciting things in store for Bombardier designs; possibly a few new product lines and we will be looking to expand on our wedding styling and stationery services. If you’d like to stay up to date with bombardier designs follow us on Instagram @kaylabombardier or on Facebook.
