Deciem. If you haven’t heard of them, then you certainly will as the company expands their presence in Australia. A company with a range of good beauty brands, Deciem is founded on the principle of doing everything others don’t do and changing the world of beauty based on this principle. Brands include Niod, Hylamide, hif, White RX and The Ordinary.

We caught up with CEO Nicola Kilner on her recent trip to Australia to find our more about Deciem

Deciem talks about how it’s an abnormal beauty company. What does that mean to you as Co CEO?

It sounds cheesy to say, but truly being the Co CEO at DECIEM is my dream job in each lifetime over. One of the reasons I love it so much is getting to be the ‘Co’ to Brandon Truaxe, our Founder and CEO. Brandon is one of the most humble, intelligent humans to grace our planet and integrity runs in his veins which comes through in the ethos of the company and the products we come to market with.

People often say DECIEM is unfocussed when it is actually quite the opposite. By being an umbrella of beauty brands it allows us to do more for each and every DECIEM brand. None of our brands could afford their own lab, their own manufacturing and their own in-house team of PR, designers, video artists, social media experts etc. But each of our brand can afford their timeshare of this resource family. When our plates are full we won’t add anymore, but when something moves on we have the next thing ready to pick up. When our sales and marketing are in full swing of a launch, our designers and bio-chemistry experts are already curating the next big thing. Rather than having one brand which covers everything, we have focused brands targeting specific beauty segments.

At DECIEM we are very proud to not have a reporting structure. Everyone is responsible for their own thing, so being a ‘co CEO’ makes me more Brandon’s left hand lady driving the abnormal nature in as un-straight direction as we possibly can. We like to be the rabbit running the gaps that the elephants can’t fit in.

Do you have any products you swear by?

NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum is the product I would most panic if I ever found myself without! My daily regime also includes our Hylamide Cleaner, our NIOD Sanskrit Saponis and our NIOD Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex. For my body I love putting on our The Chemistry Brand Glow Oil which gives the most incredible instant sheen (but no shiny particles) whilst building a natural colour without using DHA. I use our HIF Volume Cleansing Conditioner every other day, and depending on what my lifestyle is at the time I will opt into our Fountain supplements, but I do take our 10X Hyaluronic Molecule each day.

What are some of your best skincare tips for this season?

In the winter the oil content in our skin stays the same but it’s our water content that drops dramatically so the best tip in Spring is to increase the hydration to the skin so that it will lock in water in your skin. Our NIOD Hydration Vaccine works in this way, it encourages more of our own NMF (Natural Moisturising Factors – which are found naturally in our skin) to ensure our skin can keep hold of its own hydration.
