Last Thursday, Couturing headed to the Strateas.Carlucci studios and workshop to attend their launch and preview of their impressive debut collection. Family, friends and guests mingled in a maze of clothes whilst superb mint-lychee drinks flowed inside the airy and light filled space.

Where Mario and Peter left off at Trimapee, Strateas. Carlucci picks up. Couturing spoke with Mario-Luca Carlucci about the label and collection. He vocalized that both Peter and himself outgrew Trimapee and wanted to evolve the label as their taste evolved. “Don’t change, start fresh,” he said.

The collection itself boasted a mix of sharp cut-over pieces and raw, undefined numbers. Mario highlighted that the label is very much about texture and form, drawing attention to the item itself rather than the print or colour. The offerings were substantial and proved that the new label meant business, with everything from signature leather pieces to fitted mix-textile pants, dress length cotton button downs and ponchos. Understated wool blazers with razor sharp lines and basic black button down shirts proved that the collection had something for everyone.

Steering the label in a new direction, Mario and Peter included a splash of colour into the collection with elegant hues of red and green. We spoke to Mario about the design challenges of such a muted colour palette and he replied, “for some designers it’s about the colour or patterns but we do texture and form. It draws attention to the piece itself and is very architectural…Colour is always an option if it fits the theme and collection.”

With a blend of black sheen leather biker jackets and raw leather ponchos, wool tops and webbed shawls, Strateas.Carlucci is definitely Trimapee all grown up.

The duo didn’t just finish with Men’s and Women’s garments. Mario and Peter have designed and constructed a stunning collection of raw, elemental rings and jewelry to round up the collection. Beautiful geometric and space-odyssey worthy rings with black stones were a favourite. Other rings looked as naturally cut as the stones that adorned them, setting an understated precedence for the complimenting clothes.

The duo presented the collection in a maze like space where each section told a different story through the clothes. Guests congregated throughout as stills of the collection shoot were projected above the space.

All in all, the evening was an impressive display of new local label, Strateas.Carlucci. The intimate evening was a success and Mario and Peter’s passion, hospitality and personal touch to fashion brought it all together.
