Beauty lovers, mark your calendars. MECCA is officially opening the doors to its long-awaited Melbourne flagship on Friday, 8 August. Located on the iconic site of the former Cole’s Book Arcade at 299 Bourke Street, MECCA Bourke Street is not just a new store – it’s one of the largest standalone beauty destinations in the world. Spanning 4,000 square metres over three levels, this immersive new space will be home to more than 200 global beauty brands, 80+ services, and a team of over 300 beauty experts.

Set within a heritage-listed 1930s building, MECCA Bourke Street pays tribute to the city’s rich cultural legacy while rewriting the rules of beauty retail. With architecture by Studio McQualter, original features such as terrazzo floors, arched windows, and shopfront tiles have been carefully restored, along with the mezzanine level that once overlooked what was called “the grandest bookshop in the world.” MECCA Founder and Co-CEO Jo Horgan calls it “the MECCA of all MECCAs” – a reimagined retail experience fusing beauty, creativity, and culture.

Across its three floors, MECCA Bourke Street invites customers into a beauty wonderland of exclusive concepts and experiences. Highlights include the MECCA Perfumeria, an interactive fragrance gallery guided by scent sommeliers; MECCA Gift Box, a luxe gifting station with personalised touches; and MECCA Aesthetica, offering advanced skin treatments and cosmetic consultations. There’s also the MECCA Beauty Atelier for hair, nails, and makeup; the MECCA Apothecary wellness hub with an in-house naturopath; the 200 sqm MECCAVersity auditorium for learning and events; and even a beauty-themed café celebrating Melbourne’s food scene.

More than just a retail destination, MECCA Bourke Street was created in collaboration with Melbourne-based creatives like Flowers Vasette, Trophy Wife, and Melbourne Apothecary, alongside global heavyweights such as Josh Wood and MARIA TASH. As part of MECCA M-POWER, the space also showcases over 20 works by female artists and is WELL pre-certified, promoting health-first design. In true MECCA style, the flagship blends beauty, wellness, and art into one dynamic destination – and its opening is set to usher in a bold new era for experiential beauty in Australia!
