Fashion month has come to an end and has given us plenty of outfit inspo, but now the hard part starts – how do you take your new favourite, lust-have trend from the runway to real life? Enter, Melbourne Central. We took a trip to the Styling & Personal Shopping Service and visited retailers from their expansive line up, guided by one of the talented styling team, Elaine Marshall, and guess what? We found that it’s not that hard to rip the look from the catwalk and put it into your wardrobe.

ON THE RUNWAY

Suede and leather are always a staple of the season, but this year on the runway we saw the traditional materials layered up with clashing and complementing textures – breathing new life into a key winter trend. From suedes, embossed fabrics, or patent leather, this season, textures get tonal.

REAL LIFE

The best thing about this trend is that it does overlap with other key styles this season, with a lot of pieces being able to be worn in more than one way. The suede ‘Gravity’ bodysuit from Sheike is not only on trend for military this season, but was the perfect building piece for our tonal look. Matched in with the textured ‘Vogue’ skirt and unbelievably soft ‘Conquer’  jacket, the look is perfect for when you want to look polished, but with a little bit of an edge – exactly what the trend encasulates!

If you want to try the trend, or if you just need some new life in your wardrobe, the wait is finally over! Melbourne Central’s infamous One Day Shopping Festival returns on Wednesday 20 May with exclusive retail offers, musical performances, art exhibitions, local street food vendors and free tours exploring the hidden gems within the centre. It is truly a one of a kind event in the city, with the centre turning into a living, breathing entity celebrating everything the city has to offer!
