Gear Up!

I know when I put on a new dress, or a new pair of jeans I feel like a million dollars. The same goes for sportswear. When I’m wearing exercise gear that not only feels great, but looks good, I feel like I work just that little bit harder. Now this isn’t just an excuse to go out an buy new sportwear, but if it helps get you off the couch and out for a run, it can’t hurt right! Brands such as Nike are doing some great fitnesswear which is not only high performing, but can be worn all day, long after you’ve worked out, without making you feel like an extra from Olivia Newton John’s Let’s Get Physical video clip!

Correct Footwear

As someone who has flat feet, I know all too well the importance of wearing the correct footwear when working out. By wearing the correct shoes, you will not only ensure that your body is getting the most out of your workout, but it will help prevent injury by helping you get the right technique and support your feet and ankles when they are under stress.

Be Prepared

Make sure you stay hydrated before, during and after your workout. Bring a sturdy water bottle that will hold at least 1 litre of water. Particularly as the weather warms up, you need to keep your water levels up. If you are working out in a shared space such a gym, make sure you bring a towel and wipe down equipment after you’ve finished using it. No-one wants to pick up your sweaty weights!

Get Technological

When you’re working out, it can be easy to focus too much on what you are doing, which can make training sessions go really slow. Let’s be honest, 5 minutes on the treadmill seems like 5 hours! Why not make a playlist with some of your favourite motivational tunes to keep your mind off a tough workout. You can also make a chilled out tracklist for calmer exercises like yoga, or for your warm down.

Grab a Friend

Struggling to find the motivation to pound the pavement? Why not grab a friend and meet for a running or walking date. The fact you’ve committed to a time in advance will be more incentive to get up and get active. Plus you’ll tend not to notice the kilometers fall away as you get caught up in hearing all the latest goss!
