The world-renowned cocktail institution Death & Co is officially stepping beyond U.S. borders, opening its first international outpost  in Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Lane. Since its 2006 beginnings in New York’s East Village, the bar has cemented itself as a global leader in cocktail culture, shaping modern mixology across its venues in Denver, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Now, its moody elegance and meticulous craft arrive in Australia, reimagined with a distinctly local accent.

Set across two intimate levels — the Ground Floor Bar and the Cellar Bar — the new venue brings Death & Co’s signature sophistication into a Melbourne laneway setting. Venue Manager Cara Devine says the fit is natural: “Melbourne, with its thriving food and drink scene and little laneway spots, is a natural fit… curiosity and connection are at the core of what Death & Co does.” The bar’s menu honours the brand’s legacy while spotlighting local inspiration, with standout cocktails such as the eucalyptus-kissed Telegraph, the smoky raspberry-and-capsicum Sound & Fury, and the Buko Gimlet, a tropical riff inspired by Filipino buko pandan. Death & Co favourites like the Naked & Famous also appear, alongside a Dealer’s Choice offering that channels two decades of bartending artistry.

The food menu is equally tuned for pleasure, elevating bar classics with refined, shareable flair. Highlights include the gin-cured Kingfish with rhubarb and olive brine, a crisp-creamy Chip & Dip with whipped taramasalata, and an indulgent dry-aged Cheeseburger layered with smoked cheddar and house-made pickles. Cheese lovers can linger over the Tête de Moine Tart or the decadent Brillat-Savarin with mini apple tarte tatin — sweet, salty and wonderfully lush.

Designed by Studio Y with AAmp Studio, the space leans into plush textures, low lighting, rich burgundy tones and moments of discovery — including a velvet-curtained Party Pod for intimate celebrations. Open daily from 4pm to 1am with full table service and walk-ins welcome, Death & Co Melbourne is set to become a new after-dark destination for locals and visitors alike, ushering in a bold next chapter for the influential bar group.

Death & Co Melbourne is open now and located at 87 Flinders Lane, Melbourne
