As the Melbourne Cup Carnival draws to a close for another year and we look back at the fashions on the fields, there was one racegoer who really nailed it. As an international guest of Emirates, model Gigi Hadid stood out from the rest. Her fun and flirty custom Alex Perry dress, paired with a showgirl inspired star spangled headpiece from Hatmaker and perspex Chanel clutch created a unique take on racewear. Not only was her outfit picture perfect, but we loved her take on fresh, modern beauty. Her makeup was fresh, glowing, minimal but had maximum impact.

gigiFor those of you who love Gigi as much as we do, here’s how to get her makeup look at home, perfect for your next party.

First of all Gigi’s skin would have been perfectly prepped before foundation. In order to maximise glow, a great tip (and one that has been used commonly at fashion week, and I also use myself) is applying Sunday Riley’s ‘Juno’ Oil ($150) on as a primer before makeup.

Next is to create the perfect base. A wonderful foundation, that has great coverage and a beautiful radiant natural skin finish is the Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation ($110). Apply sparingly with a buffing brush and buff until an appropriate level of coverage is attained. Use the Ellis Faas Concealer ($49) under eyes and to cover any blemishes on the skin.

Setting the foundation is really important as you want longevity out of your foundation. If you get oily throughout the T-Zone during the day then you must definitely pay attention to this area. If you have overly oily skin in general, think about using a mattifying primer under your foundation, such as Peter Thomas Roth Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel ($44).

I like to powder with a pressed or loose powder. Pressed is great for a little more coverage or perhaps you need a bit of extra warmth in the face. Otherwise a translucent powder is great as it is suitable for all year round, even when you have a fake tan. Try the NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder ($49) which will set your foundation and create a beautiful veil over the skin bouncing light and diffusing any flaws in the skin to create a soft even complexion.

Next are the eyes. Gigi has a soft gold colour wash over the lid of the eye with accent on the lashes using a thick eyeliner and false lashes. Try using one of the gold shades from the Stila Eyes are the Window Shadow Palette ($68) in Soul.

There are plenty of bronze, gold and champagne shades that will suit any complexion. Pick one that is suitable, and with your brush, blend a light shimmery nude shadow all over the lid and up to the brow. Then get your gold shadow (or similar) and blend all over the lid generously and up to and in the socket of the eye. Next take your Stila Waterproof Smudge Stick in Stingray ($26) and line the lash line. Build up in the outer corner and smudge if desired. Once you have applied your liner. Grab a pair of false lashes, (individual or 3/4) and apply. We love NARS Larger Than Life Volumising Mascara ($34) which works to boost volume and curl to give you high impact lashes. Next apply your mascara and work into the false lashes so they blend into your own lashes and look lovely and full. Take a light shimmery nude shade from the Soul Palette and line under the lower lash line for brightness.

Gigi hasn’t overdone the complexion with contouring or to much blush. Instead take a tan/peach shade blush and apply along the cheekbone from the outer half of the apple of the cheek up along the cheek bone stopping when level with the outer corner of the eye. Then blend with a soft clean brush.

Another thing to note are the brows. Gigi’s are very softly and naturally filled in. No need to go overboard, but a little definition is always great. Take a soft taupe or light coloured brown pencil and give brows a once over and brush them smooth. The Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil ($44) is phenomenal and comes in three shades to suit any hair colour. Best part is the angled tip which makes filling in brows fool-proof.

For lips Gigi has kept it natural with a soft tawny rose gloss. Try one with a lip care factor in it so lips are nourished throughout the day. We love By Terry Gloss Terrybly Shine ($62) in Be Nude which is packed full of antioxidants and will replenish your lips throughout the day.
