Gathered in South Yarra’s iconic and beautiful Como House Grand Ballroom, a selection of fashion media and emerging designers are shrouded in both beauty and history. Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) CEO Graeme Lewsey acknowledges the location of the evening’s National Graduate Showcase Launch, noting the fusion of the old with the new- an old, historic building playing host to the new, the future of Australian Fashion. We gather as Lewsey announces the 12 fresh faces whose work will be featured as part of the VAMFF 2014 National Graduate Showcase presented by Target. Always one of the highlights of the festival program, these talented students are given complete creative freedom. As we saw at the launch, their visions are fresh and untainted by the business side of the fashion industry. They are creating garments that they truly love without worrying about commercialism or retail viability. The work of these young designers is nothing short of inspiring.
