The couturier Antonio Berardi and British shoe-maker Rupert Sanderson are proud to announce Rupert Sanderson for Antonio Berardi – a collection of 3 evening wear shoes exclusively available at NET-A-PORTER.COM.
The collection comprises of 3 styles with an emphasis on opulent detailing – embroidery, crystal baguettes, PVC and matt brass chains –overlaid on simple but striking super-high silhouettes. The result is a fresh look at footwear seen through the eyes of two of fashions most influential designers, infused with quintessentially British elegance and stellar craftsmanship. The styles stay true to the glamorous style of both Antonio Berardi and Rupert Sanderson. It is characteristically elegant yet powerful, chic and sexy.
Born in the UK in 1968 to Sicilian parents, Berardi studied at the prestigious Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in London while at the same time working as John Galliano’s assistant. Berardi, whose design studios are in Milan, has been showing in Paris since 2005 however he has always continued to draw on his roots in English tradition and craftsmanship and on the warmth and expressiveness of Italian culture and fusion of traditions. Antonio Berardi is acknowledged to be one of the most influential fashion designers in the world.
Rupert Sanderson founded his eponymous company in 2001 after returning from working under the likes of Sergio Rossi and Bruno Magli in Italy. His design philosophy is simply ‘less is more’. Avoiding augmentation and over-dressing the foot, he concentrates on perfecting the line, volume and material. His inspiration comes from the materials themselves: from the sensual curve and silhouettes of the lasts and heels, to the quality and finish of the best leather and fabrics.
“This is a collection of the most stunning evening shoes you are ever likely to see,” says Rupert Sanderson. “The enjoyment of working with Antonio is that it was a true collaboration – it felt like a meeting of cultures. There is a true glamour to Antonio’s work. The funny thing is that we inadvertently came together 5 years ago when Gwyneth Paltrow wore that dress with those shoes.”
Thanks to Rupert, the idea was to create a small evening shoe collection of super chic, sexy and iconic pieces that will stand the test of time to compliment my collection – something completely different and exciting,” adds Beradi. “It has been amazing to work with Rupert on this collection.”
