Les Galleries de Poison – Cruise 13/14
Alice McCall’s whimsical aesthetic was reflected in her ocean inspired Cruise collection. Fabrics moved fluidly against the body, with luminous metallics shimmering like liquid silk in the light. The colour palette of soft seashell pink, champagne and washed bone is juxtaposed with bright jewel pink, ultramarine and a gentle aqua.
Botany inspired prints inspired by German illustrator Ernst Haekel adored dresses and matching two piece sets. McCall also turned to the intricate Art Nouveau jewels for inspiration, with big jewel motifs weaving between floral patterns. Floaty ruffles fluttered as models walked the runway, moving like imaginary sea creatures.
Garments were made from sandwashed silk, double Japanese organza and silk cotton voile, perfect for mimicking the gentle movement of underwater life.
Delicate embellishments, iron-on prints and embroidered dresses with cutouts added a romantic dimension to the clothes. Lines varied between relaxed and floaty, to oversized silhouettes and circular hemlines. Models wore thick rings on every finger and platform metallic heels with a delicate ankle strap.
McCall has once again created a wearable collection which is not only beautiful in its simplicity, but has a playful elegance which will no doubt make it popular this Spring/Summer.
