The Australian Centre for Contempory Arts played host to the launch of Kookai’s The Colours of the Night Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. The truly talented Kookai designer Danielle Vagner built on the intentions of powerful prowess for an explosion of dramatic textures, shapely silhouettes and flirty patterns. The collection summed up the fierce Kookai style with a selection of garments designed to celebrate the power of femininity and encompass elegant Parisian chic.

Putting their own spin on the upcoming trends, Kookai embellished typically innocent designs with bold, dominating materials for an added touch of danger. With an abundant use of black, the styles were given more dimension with a skillful arrangement of textures; the black wool jacket with leather sleeves is an arresting example. Equally, the gentle shapes and figure-hugging styles highlighted the natural curves of the body, softening the items for a seductively feminine appearance.

Riveting diversity was a key aspect in this collection, with items spanning from wool jackets to leather caps. Straying from the previously mentioned black, sequins and metallics also featured. These statement pieces were gorgeously designed as skirts and tops of otherwise simple styles, and looked stunning with leather items such as the ruffle leather vest or black patent leather pants. Among the more striking ensembles were the ‘Danielle Dresses’. Figure hugging with long sleeves to add elegance, these gorgeous dresses carried a variation of the waterfall trail design in Midi skirt form, with much more glamour.

Increasing each outfit’s appeal, the versatile selection of accessories emphasized the collection’s fearless nature. Bold bracelets, commanding belts, bolt rings and the abundantly used ankle boot added a daring element, personalizing each ensemble. Specifically the leather studded bracelets and huge rings completed the appearance, whist the golden Champs belt set itself as the enviable item of the night. The signature accessory was, however, the bold red lipstick. Confident, sexy, flirtatious – this enticing colour is a must have for any Kookai enthusiast.

Exceeding all expectations, the stunning collection created a continuous stream of anticipation for the cooler months through its spectacular variety of items. Attracting everyone up to the lovely Lara Bingle, this amazing collection has ensured that Kookai is a wardrobe must have to survive the winter in style. The powerful and feminine ensembles epitomize the idea of a strong, confident woman with a natural sense of style, maintaining the Kookai mantra, “The woman wears the clothing, the clothing does not wear the woman”.
