The final countdown to Christmas has officially begun; while many are excited for the big day, it is expected that more Australians than ever before will experience financial hardship this festive season. Through all the challenging moments that each person has endured in varying forms, there is no better time to celebrate and recognise the resilience demonstrated by the community and the kindness displayed right across the country in those giving to others.

The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal has shined its light on these local heroes, who, with big hearts, have contributed large sums or gifts to the gift collection Appeal, just in time for it concluding for another year. Many people and companies have made generous contributions to the Appeal, both big and small which collectively makes an incredible difference.

Some incredible contributions have been made to the Appeal this year, with generous Australians teaming up to raise incredible funds or to collate huge amounts of gifts, including the teams at Cherry Collectables and Australian Fundraising:

  • Cherry Collectables hosted a livestream event to raise $55,000 for the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal
  • Australian Fundraising band together to collect 41,000 toys and other special products for the Appeal

In 2020, the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, with long standing charity partner, The Salvation Army, is expected to be needed more than any other year in its 33-year history, with the effects of the Australian bushfires and global pandemic being felt across the country and has formed this year’s Kmart Wishing
Tree Appeal theme – Big Heart, Small Gift – with Australians encouraged to give what they can as small gestures can collectively create an extraordinary impact. The Appeal will run right up until end of day Christmas eve.

Ways to give:
• Choose a practical gift that will go beyond Christmas time and leave it under the Wishing Tree in store at Kmart

• When shopping in store at Kmart, click the Wishing Tree logo on the self-serve checkout to add to a transaction or drop a gold coin into a collection box at the registers

• Donate online by scanning a Wishing Tree QR code that will be found in store at Kmart or via the Appeal’s website
