Winners of this year’s Tiffany & Co. Designer Award, the strateas.carlucci boys have big shoes to fill. The anticipation surrounding their MBFWA showing was entirely justified- their SS14/15 collection is beautiful in its simplicity and truly lived up to expectations.

Strateas.carlucci know how work to their strengths- those strengths being the art of pattern making and an architectural approach to fashion design. High necks were key, as was a mostly monochrome palette featuring splatterings of dark khakis, navys grey marles. Fluidity and freedom of movement were the driving forces behind a white silk maxi and longline tanks layered over slouchy trousers. Knits were worked back over feminine skirting, and leather pieces were tough and transeasonal.

Men are encouraged to layer too this season. Longline shirts are a simple way to add interest through length when teamed beneath a leather biker and over slouchy shorts. Suits are slim fitting without being restricting. Classic straight leg pants are revived when paired with a tailored blazer, while black drop crotch pants create volume and interest. A men’s black trench is a versatile must have, looking as sensational on the runway with navy trousers as it would off the runway stripped back with denim and a cotton tee.

Styling was as sleek and effortless as the collection itself. Dewy complexions and slick high pony tails worked seamlessly with the understated aesthetic that strateas.carlucci tend to favour. Expertly created separates appear simple to the eye, but are in fact intricately assembled and designed with meticulous attention to detail. The collection’s womenswear juxtaposes the feminine and the grungy with ease. Oversized silver zips and voluminous leather pieces are teamed with sheer panelling to promote a unique way of dressing. A creamy, boat necked knit is layered over a sultry mini, again teaming the preppy and somewhat androgynous with the undeniably feminine.

A closing outfit consisting of a full, voluminous skirt and a sheer figure hugging top really brings home the strateas.carlucci mantra and highlights their approach to fashion. While together, these pieces are overtly feminine, closer inspection proves these separates are timeless and classic in both their design and their appeal. Each strateas.carlucci piece is geometrical in its form and entirely versatile, allowing the wearer to effortlessly work each piece into their preexisting wardrobe.
