Melbourne Cup Carnival Launch

We’re just days away from the race that stops the nation, but the celebration began early in the Mounting Yard on Tuesday afternoon, as the Victorian Racing Club officially launched the 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival with help from MC, Channel 7’s Mark Beretta, Rachel Finch, and Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle.

VRC Chairman Michael Burn addressed the crowd and introduced guests to the newest additions to the Flemington’s Cup Carnival-the Johnnie Walker Whisky Bar, My Kitchen Rules Laneway, and free WiFi and phone charging stations to make sure you’re able to Instagram all your fashion wins.

While the weather was more winter than spring, the looming rain didn’t scare the ladies from attending in their spring carnival best, with most keeping their palate clean with crisp whites and a boost of colour. Large hats gave way to sky-high fascinators, and make up was left simple with a pop of colour on the lip. The men also embraced colour, with many shying away from standard black suits, embracing coloured blazers and pocket squares, best shown by the day’s DJ, Andy Murphy.

After the proceedings completed, guests were treated with delicious hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and a speciality cocktail, the Flemington Fling, and a quick relocation to the committee room to escape the gloomy skies and swap tips for the upcoming races.

Fashions on the Field ambassadors, Rebecca Bramich and Johnny Ruffo were also on hand to give some last minute advice for those still  pulling together their looks. When asked what would make a woman’s outfit a stand out, Rebecca offered, “I’m looking for something that catches my eye because someone has put their personality into it. Obviously be following the key trends, but being confident, comfortable, having a smile on their face…and maybe wearing something from Myer won’t hurt!”
