Committed to raising much needed funds and awareness for women’s mental health, Liptember is excited to announce their 2016 campaign. Throughout the month of September, women are encouraged to “kiss away the blues” and commit to wearing brightly-coloured official Liptember lipstick sold at Chemist Warehouse stores nation wide, in support of women’s mental health.

All funds raised during the month of September will, for the seventh year running, be donated to the Centre for Women’s Mental Health and Lifeline to assist the provision of national research and vital support programs.

“From humble beginnings, Liptember has now grown into a foundation that supports thousands of women across the country. We’re incredibly proud to now be in a position to fund some really significant outcomes and break down some barriers around mental health. The campaign has now formed a real community where women can connect, share experiences and provide much needed support” Luke Morris, Liptember Founder.

Suicide is the biggest single cause of death for women aged 20-34 and one in three Australian women will suffer depression or anxiety during their lifetime. Liptember supports women’s mental health and acknowledges that more focus needs to be placed on treating men and women separately when it comes to depression and anxiety, with women statistically much more susceptible to these conditions [1].

With the support of major charity partner, the Chemist Warehouse Group, over $900,000 was raised in 2015 for Liptember. The funds raised were used to train 16 new online crisis supporters at Lifeline who each require a minimum of 194+ hours of training in addition to facilitating 238 new nurses for the groundbreaking NBO Australia helping the connection between mothers and their newborns. These nurses help to support the 15% of new mothers who experience postnatal depression in the first year of child-birth [2].
