NET-A-PORTER.COM is set to unveil House of Waris RARE – a collection of handcrafted treasures from around the world curated by the brand’s Global Explorer, Waris Ahluwalia. The collection will be available online exclusively at NET-A-PORTER.COM and is based in the Explorer’s Library at The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Venice.
House of Waris, founded by designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia is strongly influenced by the romance and history of ancient kingdoms. His House of Waris jewels, which are coveted by fashion icons and sold at the finest boutiques, bring together old world techniques to hatch timeless creations. House of Waris is built around Waris’ passion for story telling through materials and craftsmanship. The brand is a celebration of objects of unique beauty, quality and inspiration. In 2010, the designer was inducted into the CFDA and placed on Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List.
House of Waris RARE brings together independent artisans and historic brands from over fourteen countries from around the world including Italy, Turkey, Brazil, Morocco, India, France, the United States and the United Kingdom. Ahluwalia carefully selected artists, who he worked with to create the collection which features unique and eclectic items ranging from fine scents and oils to exquisite accessories and objects d’art. “As a global explorer, my passion is to discover the unexpected around the world,” says Waris Ahluwalia. “House of Waris RARE celebrates the story-telling of many cultures through craft.”
Each piece in the collection tells an individual story of the destination from which it was created along with the artisan’s passion for craftsmanship. Stuffed owls were created by artist Ann Wood with vintage Fortuny fabrics, using traditional Venetian techniques. A ‘knock-out bread board,’ has been hand-crafted from wood and brass, designed by award-winning Istanbul-based design studio, Autoban. A unique single serpentine light sculpture has been hand-blown by contemporary glass artist Jeff Zimmerman in the United States.
