The wait is finally over — the iconic Doutta Galla Hotel, affectionately known as The Doot, has reopened its famous red doors in Kensington after nearly a year of extensive renovations. Under new ownership by Kickon Group (behind The Terminus Hotel and The Continental), and partners including actor Travis Fimmel and ex-AFL players Luke Hodge and Andrew Walker, the historic 1889 pub has been reimagined across three levels. The refreshed venue blends its storied heritage with a new era of modern hospitality — featuring cold drinks, bold flavours, and a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike.
Inside, guests will discover four new bars, a lively public bar and dining room on the ground floor, and beautifully transformed upper levels designed for dining, trivia nights, and private events. The interiors mix exposed brickwork, heritage fireplaces, stained glass windows, and modern lighting — evoking a blend of New York loft and old-school pub charm. With its proximity to Flemington Racecourse, The Doot remains the go-to destination for Cup Week celebrations and post-race gatherings.
In the kitchen, award-winning Chef Jake Furst leads a menu that champions seasonal produce and big, satisfying flavours. Over a dozen premium steak cuts — including dry-aged options cooked on the signature Josper Grill — headline a line-up of elevated pub fare. Expect hearty favourites like Chicken Parma and Bacon Cheese Burger alongside creative dishes such as Orecchiette with lamb ragu or Red Curry Duck Leg. For something lighter, Osaka Chicken Ribs and San Choi Bao make perfect share plates, complemented by 16 beer taps and an extensive cocktail list.
