This week the iconic Melbourne rooftop announced the second part of their summer film programme and it’s pretty spectacular. From classics such as Never Ending story, Ferris Buellers Day Off and Labyrinth to the highly anticipated new releases Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf on Wall Street to independent cinema: All the Real Girls and Don Jon, there’s something to watch every week amongst the heart of the CBD.
With that in mind what better way to spend the Saturday evening of the Australia Day long weekend than watching the Aussie cult film – Muriel’s Wedding. Seated on deckchairs with our ($5 hire) blankets, the film for those who haven’t seen it sees Muriel’s plight to escape from her small home town, sitting alone listening to ABBA songs and marry the man of her dreams with an elaborate wedding. A hilarious classic piece of Australian cinema with plotlines of a serious note and a 90’s wardrobe that would be the envy of any hipster today, Muriel’s Wedding is an easy watch.
The Rooftop Cinema is fully licensed and closed to the general public for the duration of the film, with food available from the All Day Burger shack prior to the film starting. Great for a date or a group of friends but make sure to book in advance as the films will sell out.
