It seems like ages since we last saw our favourite style stars take to a red carpet, but the wait is finally over. The 2015 Emmy’s red carpet saw minimalist, sleek looks trend (as well as a splash of summer brights!) but as always, some did it better than others….without further ado, here is our top 10 best dressed from TV’s night of nights!
10. TATIANA MASLAY IN BOUCHRA JARRAR
Orphan Black‘s resident chameleon, Tatiana Maslay proved that she is not just a supremely talented actor, but a rising star in the style stakes, too. We loved her sleek, monotone suit and simple accessories, but would have loved it more had it been just a little bit better tailored.
9. LAVERNE COX IN CALVIN KLEIN
Laverne has had as many hits as she’s had misses on the red carpet, but this teal Calvin Klein look is easily the best she’s looked. The colour is amazing against her skin tone, and while it’s a simple column dress, the subtle cut outs add further dimension (and a little sexiness) to the look. Only thing that would have landed her higher would be more of a statement with the jewellery.
8. JULIANNE HOUGH IN MARCHESA
Underwear as outerwear has been one of the hottest red carpet trends in the last 12 months, and it shows no slowing down. We loved Julianne Hough’s take on the trend, wearing a delicate black Marchesa gown for her turn on the carpet. The gothic styling of the dress is echoed in her hair and make up, but wearing her hair down may have been more effective.
7. AMANDA PEET IN MICHAEL KORS
For her turn on the carpet, Amanda Peet offered a study in modern classic styling. From the textured fabrication of her Michael Kors Pre-Fall gown, to the stylishly messy ballerina bun, to the art deco clutch and a swipe of red lipstick, the look is considered, event appropriate, and a sure winner in our eyes.
6. SAMIRA WILEY IN JILL STUART
One of the breakout stars of Orange Is The New Black, Samira Wiley showed she’s also one to watch on the carpet. Looking stunning in a fuchsia Jill Stuart grecian gown, she proved that red carpet doesn’t have to equal OTT styling. Keeping the look simple was a great choice, letting the silhouette and colour do all the talking.
5. LADY GAGA IN BRANDON MAXWELL
Lady GaGa the singer may evade the best dressed list often, Lady GaGa the actress is really proving her red carpet chops. We loved her old Hollywood look (courtesy of her stylist/designer, Brandon Maxwell), especially the unexpected silhouette from the waist down. Her simple hair and make up were a refreshing change from her usual fare, and pulled the look together perfectly.
4. SARAH HYLAND IN ZAC POSEN
Ox blood was one of the standout colours of last season and shows no sign of slowing down – and when it looks this good, we’re not complaining. Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland was a stand out in her off-the-shoulder Zac Posen gown in the coveted hue, and brought a little youthful energy to the carpet. We loved her tousled hair and bronzed make up, and her jewellery styling added a little edge, opting for midi rings and arm cuffs over more conventional red carpet pieces.
3. AUBREY PLAZA IN ALEXANDRE VAUTHIER
After playing the cynical, uninterested April Ludgate for seven years on Parks and Recreation, Aubrey Plaza wowed on the carpet in a very different look to what people associate with her character. Her Alexandre Vauthier look exuded an understated sexy vibe – looking effortless but stunning at the same time. Her relaxed hair and make up kept the look fresh, and simple accessories made sure the standout piece was the dress.
2. SARAH PAULSON IN PRABAL GURUNG
Off-the-shoulder gowns are having a moment right now, and one of the best was seen on American Horror Story actress, Sarah Paulson. In the shimmering navy and black Parabal Gurung column gown, she looked sleek, polished, and while she didn’t take home an award, she looked every part the winner.
1. KERRY WASHINGTON IN MARC JACOBS
After several blunders on the red carpet of late, Scandal‘s Kerry Washington proved her red carpet ability, easily taking out best dressed in her metallic armour-esque Marc Jacobs cocktail dress. We loved the embellished hem and shoulder, and with just the slightest amount of sheer to the fabric highlighting her amazing body, it was just the kind of risk that plays off.
